New

It is great shock and horror, I just noticed that the wonderful Elisheva blog was deleted. Since I feel it was the very best blog out there par none and it caused me much agmas nefesh to see it removed I will be restoring all the backed up archives I have from it...

Hi!Quite new here. I don't even know what a blog is, nor how to use one, but I hope to learn on the job. Just found these other blogs, and found it all fascinating. I am from a very sheltered frum home, but am a very curious person and have some pressing issues....I have learned a year in Israel in a regular frum seminary for my "spiritual growth:, and have learned that lots of other stuff comes along with that, both good and bad. I especially wonder how rampant is the girl/girl curiosity, flirting, teasing, comparing etc. that was quite out-of-hand where I was and which people are obviously not talking about, but something tells me it isn't only in this one seminary. To be honest, most girls do stay away from boys (as far as I know at least) besides some little flirting here and there, like if we happen to be by the same people for Shabbos etc. But I wonder if the price for that is a bunch of curious, active, healthy girls looking for, well.... to feel good, I guess. Or is it something else? Like we mean well, and I really learned alot and would love to support Torah and all, and I picked up alot about davening in Israel, but can we deny part of our basic makeup? Just wondering. I'm sure there are lots of frum girls who went through the regular BY and sem experience like I did, and I wonder what others have to say about all the hush-hush about lots of stuff, and if they find the same things happen undercover (lol) as I saw, or not, or if they see it leading to other things.Shalom for now,Elisheva

Welcome to the blogosphere. You sound like you are a mature and sincere young lady. Hopefully your blog will be a place where your voice can be heard respectfully to address the real issues that you've encountered. The community doesn't gain by sweeping problems under the carpet, so an open and honest dialog will do wonders to help people understand the realities of the frum world. Just a quick editorial- There is nothing that shouldn't be discussed in a blog, but there is also nothing that can't be discussed with a certain level of tact. No topic should be censored as being too explicit, but there are ways to bring actual examples without setting too explicit of a tone. Hopefully, not only will this blog be able to address such issues in a dignified manner, but those that disagree will voice their disagreement in at least sensible terms.

Thanks both of you for such nice words. Josh, I hope that wasn't a subtle way of telling me I wasn't being discreet enough... I tried to be open in an honest way.NormalJ. I really like your site, tho perhaps disagree on some aspects...Shalom

Elisheva - Never fear. You were being more than discreet enough. However, I've seen enough other blogs become pornographic in their quest for "openness." Hopefully, your site will be a refreshing forum where I won't feel like I have to take a cold shower after leaving. The hardest part about blogging is coming up with new material on a regular basis. Don't feel that any thought is too small to share. Keep up the good work!

Elisheva, I am so glad I found your blog!I have also been to a sem, and together with 2 other friends from my seminary, decided to start a blog about our past, since there is a lot that needs to be sweeped from under those beds, candy-wrappers and brushes included.I will sure visit your blog on frequent basis!
